How it all started and who we are

Together with my family, I traveled to Kenya in 2019 and 2020. These trips gave me a close insight into the problems surrounding the lack of menstrual protection and the difference such matters makes for young girls. I work everyday as a school counselor in Sweden and in addition to being a sociologist (socionom), I am also further educated in sexology and human rights. With the help of contributions from family, friends and colleagues, I was able to bring 300 menstrual cups with me already in the autumn of 2019. I also created information materials, films and everything needed to hold workshops on how to use these. The meeting and cooperation with local actors on site in Kenya was overwhelming and it was very clear that there is much, much, much more to do here.

Back home in Sweden, I started the non-profit association Flow Girl together with a few "stars" nearby: Three gynecologists / obstetricians who possess invaluable knowledge about women's health - and a 14-year-old girl who grew up in Kenya. This girl speaks Swahili, English and Swedish and travels between Sweden and Kenya at regular intervals. I myself contribute with my knowledge and experience of volunteer work, sexology and cooperating with young people. Together we form a stable ground in Flow Girl. Still, it would never work without all forces which, on a non-profit basis, help us with everything from fundraising, graphics, photography to audits, etc. We call these forces our ambassadors. Together we change the conditions for young girls in Kenya!
