Anni & “Binti Mwangaza”

Anni lives up to what we usually mean when we talk about zealots. Since 2012, she has worked full time with the NGO organization she started, called Binti Mwangaza ("Daughter's Light" in Swahili). From the beginning, she worked almost exclusively with cloth pads and held workshops in vulnerable schools on how girls themselves can learn to sew them. Since we started the collaboration with Anni, she has also worked with menstrual cups.

Anni works by contacting school after school and asks the principal for permission to come and hold workshops and hand out packages with reusable cloth pads. The package also includes a soap and panties as many girls lack also this. She cares about talking to boys too. As a Kenyan, she knows all about culture, traditions and also how to reach out with her message and deal with shame and taboos. Read more about Binti Mwangaza here.

CHAT - Community Health Africa Trust

CHAT works around Kenya. Their main focus area is family planning: reaching out with contraception and information about HIV testing, etc. The employees in CHAT grew up in the area they work in. CHAT goes out in slum areas and Masai cities by car, motorcycle or camel. They assist with information and conversations with women and men about the importance of "family planning" from a sustainability perspective. Erica, the founder of Flow Girl, met Shanni for the first time in 2019 and began collaborating on reaching out with menstrual cups in these very inaccessible areas. We have great confidence in CHAT and have made several rewarding visits to their business.
